Umami is located at the podium retail of a luxury apartment near California State University, San Marcos. The restaurant targets students and other youth groups by featuring a direct supply of organic and healthy foods from the restaurant’s own farm. The design was part of a full-service development project, from the interior modeling to the architectural branding. Natural bamboo panels were used as the primary material in the restaurant. In addition, a vertical green wall was raised at the west facade as an alternative shading device.
